Jonathan Ames, Ph.D. Providing Personal Support
I offer structured supervision for therapists completing their credentialing processes; I am also available as someone to listen, and provide a perspective on puzzling -- or troubling -- clinical situations. As a therapist I have benefited from such consultations, and appreciate their value, as well as the boundaries involved.
Supervision
My approach to supervising other clinicians is framed around the needs of the supervisee, expressed as a human being in clinical practice. Again, there is a radical self-acceptance involved: for the beginning clinician, I guide the supervisee's realization that some anxiety and discomfort in their work are inevitable, and usually directly meaningful, in working with confused boundaries and suppressed self-expression. For more advanced clinicians, I offer an ear -- sharing of perspectives, and as sometimes essential, a supportive holding environment for clinicians engaging with deeply-rooted disturbances in their clients (again, often mirrored in their own reactions). I am familiar with therapeutic approaches ranging from CBT/ACT to psychodynamic and psychospiritual approaches.
I handle documentation of supervised hours as required professionally.
